Anonymous asked: What do u do as a job?

Breathe.

Born and bred in Hawaii.

With style for miles the 20 year old Evan Mock is no stranger to the fears of the sea. Naturally a hybrid of both land and sea Mock will swim with sharks by day, and rip your local spot to ruin by night. Frothing to to pick his brain. We spent a day on the mainland, and chatted about the mood of social media, Street League, and the commercialization of the North Shore.

A / F :

Being from the North Shore and there's no place like home but what's your favorite spot to skate on the mainland?

E V A N :

River Jetty’s.

A / F :

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

Everything bagel with cream cheese avocado bacon and egg no lemon.

A / F :

First tattoo?

E V A N :

I already tattooed it on my other friend and he did it on another friend. But yeah it was super stupid it’s LAVISH and it’s on my leg. I was 17 at the time we were on Kauai with Kalani at my friend's tattoo shop called Good Life. So yeah my first tattoo was a brotherhood tatt'.

A / F :

One place you have to travel to before you die?

E V A N :

H A W A I I.

A / F :

But dude you live there.

E V A N :

Well I’m going to Paris tomorrow so that should be sick.

A / F :

You ever take a chick to Pairs you know to see the Eiffel Tower?

E V A N :

Oh yeah. [Laughs]

A / F :

You almost died once?

E V A N :

So closest time to dying or worse was being paralyzed. I was like 12 years old jumping off the rock at Waimea falls. I was trying to do a gainer but I only rotated half way and I fell in straight on my neck on to the shallow sand. Luckily, I was younger so I was basically like jello at the time I was very flexible but if that happened today I would be in bad shape.

A / F :

Worst thing about California?

E V A N :

The traffic sucks here that's for sure and they’re shitty drivers. Also there are a lot of social climbers like instagram that has changed a lot about how the way people act. People are just friends with people so that they can tell others that they know that “someone” who has a certain rank/ social statues.

A / F :

Next trick to get on lock?

E V A N :

Um, I want to learn an actual proper 540 on a ramp.

A / F :

Social media?

E V A N :

I think it can be your best friend but it can also be your worst, it just depends on how you use it.

A / F :

Skateboarding trends?

E V A N :

Well if your skating I don’t think it matters what someone wears or how they dress because as long as they are skating it’s the fact that they are doing it. [Laughs]

A / F :

How about Street League?

E V A N :

To me it almost looks like a football game, like guys are doing tricks when they are told to do tricks taking the creativity out of the sport. All those guys didn’t start skating because of street league but no they are skating it for a totally different thing. Some do it for personal goals which I understand but other do it for paychecks. It’s just changed now. That’s what happens when your dictated by contracts.

A / F :

Commercialization of the North Shore?

E V A N :

I think it’s both good and bad thing because it helps fuel local businesses but also fills up the Island with traffic and causes a lot more death because when people who come that don’t know how powerful the water actually is.

A / F :

Advice to groms?

E V A N :

YOU DO YOU.

Thanks Evan...
